History

The Groninger Studenten Budo Vereniging de Mattekloppers is a student sports-association where Ju Jitsu, Judo and Systema are being practised.  Til the beginning of 2017 Karate was practised as well. The Mattekloppers are renowned for Judo especially, e.i. because of our participation in the Olympics. De Mattekloppers are founded on January 15th 1968 in Groningen. Initially G.S.B.V. de Mattekloppers was a Budo Association, but since the addition of Systema in ’06-’07 it became a combat sports-association. Nowadays he club is affiliated with ACLO. Because of this only students of the University of Groningen and Hanze University can become members.

In the past our competition judokas made great national and international performances. Karin Nienhuis for instance, took part in the Olympics of 1996 and 2000. Many others took part, and regularly won, European and World Championships. as of late the club is doing very well nationally. Two gentlemen took a podium finish at the 2008 National Championships and in both 2010 and 2011 a member became National Champion. More recently became a member third on the 2012 world cup. Moreover, in mens- and mixed teams are De Mattekloppers kicking ass as well.
