History

GSBV de Mattekloppers is a Dutch student association dedicated to the practice of the traditional Japanese martial arts judo and jiujitsu. The abbreviation "GSBV" stands for "Groninger Student Budo Association." The association was founded on January 15th, 1968, and is located in the city of Groningen. It aims to encourage students from the University of Groningen (RUG) and the Hanze University of Applied Sciences Groningen (HG) to engage in responsible movement through structured, varied, and accessible sports classes.

GSBV de Mattekloppers is affiliated with the Dutch Judo Federation (JBN) and regularly participates in national and international judo tournaments and competitions. For example, in early October 2023, the association received a 'JBN Keurmerk'. This shows that we are licensed and accepted by the federation, guaranteeing that we provide qualitative and safe training.

The association offers judo and jiujitsu training for both beginners and advanced martial artists. Besides the normal training hours, we organize 5-week courses in both jiu-jitsu and judo in collaboration with ACLO as well. See "ACLO Intro Course" for more information. In addition to sporting activities, GSBV de Mattekloppers also organizes social events for its members, such as drinks, parties, and other social gatherings.

GSBV de Mattekloppers has a rich history of producing successful judokas at both national and international levels. Several members of the association have competed in European and world championships, as well as the Olympic Games. All in all, GSBV de Mattekloppers is a well-known and respected judo association in the Netherlands, playing an important role for students in Groningen both in terms of sports and social activities.
